Weekly review

Last week i organised my photo shot and picked the photos i would like, and did all my rough designs. This week i will be putting together the pictures with the designs and having feedback. Also do a textual analysis for the some example contents pages.

Photos

I chose this picture because its of feet to connect with the the fashion in my magazine. Its a bird eye view so it will have to go in the contents page, as on the front cover it has to be a mid shot.

Mock Designing

1st design- For my first design i picked to put the writing in a colour becuase i chose to pick a white for the background. The main picture will be the focus point of the front cover. The price is in the top right hand corner so that when its on the shelf you will be able to see the price.

2nd design- I picked the masthead to go horizontal to be unique, this also has allowed me to have more room to layout my front cover. I have a large image again to be eye catching. The cover lines will be a big font so its easy to read from far away. he barcode and price are at the bottom so you have to pick it up to see the price so therefore you will probley look through the magazine so then you will wont to buy it.

3rd deisgn- For my 3rd design i picked to have two main pictures, they could be a picture for a girl thena picture for a boy. Or two similar pictures. Its hasnt got alot on the front cover but sometimes it doesnt hvae to, you just need the important things.

Week Review

Weekly review-

Last week i completed most things that were in my action plan. I completed my textual analysis and questionnaire. The textual analysis helped me because i found out the different parts of a front cover magazine. Also the textual analysis helped me design my own magazine front cover. The questionnaire helped me decide what colour and what to put on the front cover of the magazine. Also gave me a general over view of what people were looking for.

The questionnaire helped me to pick my target market, as its a student magazine it will be targeted around ages of 16-18 years old with male and female having the same magazine. The kinds of things that the people liked were a colour background with black and white writing. A big picture on the front cover as it's eye catching.

This week i will be organising my photoshoot what pictures i would like to take and the types of angles and lighting. Also i will be desging my magazine front cover.

Textual analysis of student magazine

First Car-

This magazine is targeted at teenagers, the banner says "The inbetweeners interview" it stands out becasue its behind a bright yellow background with black writing. Also the inbetweeners is a TV programme so it will make you wont to open and read more. The title stands out as its big and bold and behind a dark background this is effective because its eye catching. The inbetweeners on the front cover are the lure of the full story that is inside, they have done this so you know that thy have an interview inside. Graphics are used with capitals being used with the main important headings, this is used to catch your eyes. The strap line at the top is advertising competitions this needs to be obvious so its been placed behind a white background with black writing in contrast with the header which is placed behind natural background. The niche audience is teenagers who are learning or who can drive, a little subheading saying "the magazine for younge people" indicates that its set that type of audience.

StudentTimes

This magazine is advertised and targeted at students as the magazine is called "StudentTimes". The layout of the front cover is that the title of the magazine is at the top so when the magazine is in shops, when its stacked up you will be able to see the title so therefore you know what the magazine is. A triangular text box has been placed in the top right hand corner, it says "FREE" its stands out because its behind a red background which catches your eye. The subtitle placed in a text box is connected to the title because the colour scheme is white and blue. The subtitle is placed behind a blue textbox which makes the writing stand out more. There is a large image of Peter Kay its so big because he is famous. "The K-Factor" is a large heading which is linked to the picture, the k-factor links to the x-factor which was being broadcasted at the time. The perfect hair streams down to a "TONI&GUY" advertisement with the writing being placed on a light background with dark writing so it stands out. The strap line at the bottom is green to stand out from the rest of the front cover which is a different colour. There is a strap line with "News Entertainment Careers Fashion" the font makes it look very formal compared to the other fonts about the k-factor.
